MINDSET SHIFT, WHEN THERE IS ABUNDANCE
The exponential change in technology, in my opinion, is giving a better quality of life with abundance of almost everything. For example the proliferation or explosion of the internet has, and is giving us more information that was previously impossible. Today, a little girl or boy in my village in the eastern region of Ghana with a smartphone has almost the same information as the US government. In fact, access to information used to be the preserve of high profile government officials, super rich and the military. Most of the technologies we have now came out of the Military.
Quality healthcare is readily available if you have the right kind of resource, you know where and how to access it.
Sources of capital for “startup” is incredibly overwhelming. Indeed, you can practically crowd source almost everything today.
From the above, technology has a lot to offer therefore the need for mindset shift to a world of abundance.
One of the first people who developed and explained the “Abundance mentality or Abundance mindset” was Stephen Covey in his book, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. He explained that anyone that believes there are enough resources and successes to share with others, has the Abundance mindset”. He contrasts it with the scarcity mindset (i.e., destructive and unnecessary competition), which is founded on the idea that, if someone else wins or is successful in a situation, that means you lose; not considering the possibility of all parties winning (in some way or another) in a given situation. A person with abundant mentality: is one that is open to a world of possibilities and result in what you decide to make of it. That abundance is “the ability to do what you need to do when you need to do it.” Abundance stems from what we need and what we value such as resources, time, goodwill, philanthropy, creativity, innovation, etc. indeed it is the willingness to do more for the benefit of all humanities, the zeal to engage with “what can be” and not “what if”.
“Abundance: The Future is Better Than You Think” is a book by Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler. In the book, the Founder and Chairman of X-PRIZE Foundation, Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler, is an award-winning science writer, inspires and makes a very compelling and uplifting argument that abundance is our future. Quote – “Imagine a world of nine billion people with clean water, nutritious food, affordable housing, personalized education, top-tier medical care, and nonpolluting, ubiquitous energy. Building this better world is humanity’s grandest challenge.”
For us to enjoy the life of abundance, as individuals, groups, companies or nations will have to have a mindset shift from scarcity mindset and engage with ;
1. What is possible
2. Be responsible
3. Be innovative and creative
4. A passion for solutions
5. And finally have the win-win attitude for everyone involved in all things
